It was nearly destroyed by the Big Thompson River flood of 1923, but this “gussiest” town in Colorado was rebuilt and is now a popular stopping point for almost every taste and pocketbook. Don’t forget to visit the Historic Stanley Hotel famous for inspiring Stephen King to write The Shining. Only 18 miles from Peaceful Valley, enjoy an afternoon of souvenir shopping in this gem of the Rockies.
Boulder
“One of the most spectacular small cities in America.” Only 45 minutes away from Peaceful Valley, Boulder is not only a haven for alpine enthusiasts but a center for culture. Visit historic Pearl Street Mall for outdoor shopping on one of Boulder’s 313 days of sunshine or choose from one of the many trails to view the beauty encompassing this unique mountain college town. After a day of activity, relax in one of the over 300 restaurants renowned for their diverse international menus.
Central City
It was once the “richest square mile on earth!” 40,000 miners were packed into that square mile and they have left their permanent mark on this Victorian town. Visit the “lost gold mine, see a narrow gauge train, visit the museum...and of course, try your luck at the slot machines - a modern day Gold Strike! Only 1 hour’s drive from Peaceful Valley, the town bustles with activity much like it might have about 140 years ago.
