Gold Prospecting at Peaceful Valley
Gold prospecting was a part of Peaceful Valley history back when the area was referred to as Wildcat Gulch. Some even say that there is still a prospector living and panning for gold in the mountains around Peaceful Valley. He may even come down during our summer season and teach the children the proper way to pan for gold.
Every Friday afternoon we head out to the Ceran St. Vrain River near Jamestown for a barbeque lunch. The river is a great spot to pan for gold with slow moving water located just down stream from much swifter moving rapids. This is an ideal place because the heavy gold is washed down the river and settles in the calm waters.
The old prospector may even show up to see how much the children learned.
